According to Different Personalities:

Robert Kreitner

” Communication process is a chain made up of identifiable links. The chain includes sender, encoding, message, receiver, decoding and feedback.”

S.K Kapur

” The communication process is the method by which the sender transfers information and understanding to the receiver.”

Bovee, Thill and Schatzman

“The communication process consists of six phases linking sender and receiver.”

Steps of the Communication Process

Communication Process consists of the following eight steps:

Step 1: Sender:

The sender is the person who wants to communicate. The sender sends a message in the form of words, visual or audio. Similarly, the sender can be an individual or group or an organization.

Step 2: Message:

The information the sender wishes to communicate. Communication is started when a message is sent by the encoder to the receiver. The message must be simple, clear, and complete.

Step 3: Encoding

How the message is to be communicated. Examples verbal or written.

Step 4: Channel:

How the message is sent. For example, Face to Face or by email. It is a means used to exchange/transmit the message.

Step 5: Receiver:

The person to whom the sender sends the message.

Step 6: Decoding

How the receiver understands or interprets the message.

Step 7: Feedback:

The receiver responds to the message. The feedback can be verbal or non-verbal.

Similarly, there is noise at last. It means anything that might interfere with communication or reduce the chance of successful communication. For the completion of communication, feedback is most important.
